Birds, Bees, Babies, Blah

Last night we were talking about boyfriends and girlfriends.

"My girlfriend is Violet," announced Owen.

"Well, my girlfriend is Becca," replied Aidan.  "And, my boyfriends are Jacob and Jack."

Ashley said, "Mommy, do you know that boys can marry boys?"

I said, "Yep.  Well, technically, not in Nebraska.  But a boy can go over to Iowa and marry a boy!"

She nodded.  "But, girls can't marry girls."

"Why not?" I asked.

"Because there would be too many babies!  What if they both had triplets?!  Then there would be six babies!"

"Yes, that's a lot of babies," I replied.

"But boys who marry boys don't have any babies."

"Well, they can adopt!" I said.

"What does 'adopt' mean?" asked Ashley.

I said "Well, when a baby doesn't have any parents, another family can bring that baby into their family and take care of it and become its parents."

"What if no parents want to take care of the baby?"

"Well, there are orphanages in some places, and foster parents who will take the baby for a little while..."

"But, mommy.  If the baby has no parents, where did it come from?"

I said, "Well, it had parents.  But they could be too sick too take care of it, or maybe they died after it was born, or maybe they just knew another family would take better care of it."

"NO, mommy.  I mean where did the baby come from?"

::crickets::

"Ummmm, who wants a popsicle!?!?"

Cut me some slack, kid.  There's only so many tough topics a mom can handle in one sitting!

Gender Benders

Scott met an old dude at the butcher shop the other day.  A chatty old dude.

They talked about sports, they talked about accounting, they talked about BBQ'ing, all while Scott tried to purchase some ribs to smoke that night for dinner.

As topic after topic were exhausted, the old man asked "What do you do for a living?"

"I'm a stay at home dad," replied Scott, finally packing up his purchases.

The old man nodded solemnly.

"Hardest job in the world, being a mom."

Er...

{Review} Fresh Produce Clothing

I recently got a fabulous opportunity to review a clothing item of my choice from Fresh Produce Clothing.  Fresh Produce has some gorgeous clothes to choose from, including items such as a simple dress, casual tops and vacation clothing

Because I am a girly girl, I went for a dress.  The "Twist Front Dress", to be specific.

I ordered it in black because even though I am a girly girl, I am also a lawyer, and thus practicality typically wins out over my desire to wear girly girl colors.

It came in the mail yesterday and I LOOOOOOOVE it.  So much so, that I wore it today to work.

When I came downstairs this morning, the boys said "Mommy, you look BYOO-TEE-FUL!"  And I was like "I know!!!!"  ;-)

It is super flattering, made out of rayon/lycra so it is very comfy, and the twist detail adds just enough of a punch to keep it interesting, yet still classic.  I also LOVE the 3/4 length sleeves.  Let me tell you, it is HARD to find pretty black dresses with sleeves.  And for a girl who lives in the midwest where it is freakishly cold 5+ months out of the year, long sleeves are a real treat.

That being said, I can't wait to revisit Fresh Produce to do a little shopping for my upcoming Hawaii vacation this August (that's right, we BOOKED! Hooray!)  They have so many cute sundresses and breezy tops and tunics, etc.  I can't wait to check out more of their stuff.

Go visit Fresh Produce...you will be impressed!

{Disclaimer:  I received a clothing item of my choice from Fresh Produce
at no charge to facilitate my review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.}

Flowers and Crepes and Birthdays, Oh My

You know, I really need to stop blogging about blogging.  Because whenever I do, I inevitably end up falling off planet earth again.  Oh well, what can you do.

It was Scott's birthday today!  Thank goodness that he's finally caught up in age with me.  I don't like being 4 months older than him.  It makes me feel like an old fogie.

We had a mellow day.  We went out to breakfast sans kids, which is always a treat (don't tell them that).  I had a caramel/chocolate latte and nutella crepes.  And two eggs.  (What!  I was hungry.)

It was soooooooo good.

Scott had a GINORMOUS breakfast burrito.  I didn't even take a picture - it kind of frightened me.  The waitress couldn't believe he finished it.  I think her exact words were "Oh my God, you DESTROYED that!"  That's my man.

After breakfast we we went shopping for flowers for the backyard.  We didn't buy anything because you supposedly are supposed to wait until Mother's Day to start your spring planting, but somebody needs to tell the weather that because it totally feels like May to me.  I'm feeling very purply flower-wise this year.  I had my eye on some Purple Hearts and Mona Lavendar and something else that I can't remember what it was called, but you guessed it, it was purple.

Pretty, pretty.

The last few nights there have been thunderstorms...  I love a good thunderstorm.  It's my favorite part about spring.  Unfortunately, they terrify the children.  But then again, I don't mind having a few extra snuggle buddies at night.  Bring it on.  :-)
