Flattery Gets You Everywhere - And Also a Big Tip

You know how when you're in school you get grades on stuff?  So you know whether or not you're doing a good job?

I miss that.

I was always really good at school.  So getting good grades at the end of the year always gave me a nice little boost.  Like, okay Meg...you're doing a good job.  This fancy schmancy professor said so, so it must be true.

And then when you go to work, you have these things called annual reviews.  And while it's a more nerve-wracking experience than getting a report card, it's always nice to have an opportunity to get feedback from your superiors, especially when it's positive.

But when you're a parent, you don't get a report card or an annual performance review.  So sometimes it's hard to know whether or not you're doing a good job.

Which is why it was so awesome to get this note from our waiter at Olive Garden this weekend...

Yes.  That's right.  An Olive Garden waiter said my kids were polite.  In writing

This will definitely hold me over till next year.  In fact, I might just laminate it and carry it around in my wallet as proof that I'm doing something right.  I mean, the man at the Olive Garden said so, so it must be true.

I relate to everything you said in this post... except I haven't gotten an awesome compliment in writing on my kids yet, but that is HUGE! I'd laminate it too. Really it's the most wonderful "grade" you can get as a mom. Thanks for sharing.

That is awesome! I hope I get a signed receipt as evidence of my children's awesomess one day....you rock!! I need all your advice I can muster my mind around I think. Your girl/twin boy combination will be just like mine BUT I will probably end up with hellions. HAHA! :) Thanks for sharing this is really cool!

I LOVE this! I remember a couple friends and I were eating out with our kids, and an older woman stopped by to say she'd never seen such well-behaved kids. And we all looked at each other like she'd just told us our kids all had nice horns in the middle of their heads. ;)

Enjoy the moment - you've earned it!

Wow, what an awesome compliment! I would be beaming ear-to-ear, too!

It must be true!! Way to go Momma! ;)

Obviously, your children are much better behaved in restaurants than mine are! Damn, I guess I better step it up a notch.

I love it and I'm the type who really would frame it or laminate it - I dare you, laminate it!

Now... please share your tips with us! And your discipline tricks :)

Wow...well done you! We usually get, "Well...she's certainly...vocal." and a tight smile. Heh.

I was a server for 11 years, I always complimented both the kids and the parents when they were well-behaved.
Now that we own a restaurant, I see some kids that need an extreme makeover so I let the good ones know (and I compliment quiet kids in front of awful ones)
Good job!

Definitely wallet-worthy!

I think I'd have to at least scan it in and email it around. :)

That is fantastic!! I would love to get a note like that but sadly, like Brandy, suspect I won't ever get one - or at least not for a very long time.

That would totally make my day. I'm sorta glad I don't get graded. I'd be skerd of the report card.

Frame it! I waited tables and very few said please and thank you.

My main issue were the ones who left massive amounts of crumbs and cheerios under the table... but that's not really their fault I guess haha

definitely keep that in your wallet! Or frame it... whatever haha

Frame it :-)
That's very cool. I have never see a waiter do that. Oh crap I guess that means my kids are rotten Lol.

Awww! Compliments about the kids is one of the greatest "highs", isn't it?

Fantastic! I'll bet they were too!

That's awesome! I would go beyond laminating it. I would frame it! Although this is just a pipe dream...my kids will never get confused for the polite kids.
