Date Night Challenge: Grooveshark is in the Heart

Guess what time it is!?!?  That's right, it's time for another...

Date Night Challenge!!!

This week, Scott and I decided to mix it up a bit with our Date Night Challenge theme...

Grooveshark is in the Heart

When I revealed this week's theme on my last Date Night Challenge post, I got a few emails and questions from faithful readers along the lines of "What the hell does that mean?" Well, now you can all put your wondering minds to rest, because I am going to tell you what it means.

Or, I'll just remind you of this classic song by Deee-Lite instead...

...and then tell you about one of my favorite websites in all the internet-land:  Grooveshark.

Grooveshark is basically free on-demand internet radio, which I assume is legal because you do not actually download anything - you just listen and leave, no commitment necessary.  I'm not entirely sure, but I think most people use Grooveshark to create playlists of their favorite songs.  However, Scott and I use it to COMPETE.  That's right folks, we're putting the challenge back in "Date Night Challenge" this week!

Here's how our Grooveshark challenge worked:

First we went outside and built a fire in our fire pit.  All Grooveshark challenges need a good campfire feel.

Then we broke out the beer.  No fancy mimosas for this date night challenge!

Then we got down to Grooveshark business.  One of us had to choose a song to begin with.  Scott gave me first dibs so I searched for and found Angel Dream, by Tom Petty.  It's been our song for forever.

After we listened to Angel Dream, the game really began.  Scott had to find the next song, with one rule:  the title of his song had to begin with the first letter of the last word of the title of my song.  In this case, D for Dream.

He chose Devil Went Down to Georgia.

Then I went with the Goo Goo Dolls version of Give a Little Bit.

Then he picked the Bon Jovi classic Born to be My Baby.

So I picked the Sir Mixalot classic Baby Got Back.

He countered with Born in East LA, as sung by Cheech and Chong.

Then I got worried that maybe we needed to turn the volume down on the laptop so the neighbors wouldn't start to worry.

Love Story by Taylor Swift, Stop in the Name of Love by the Supremes, and Lover Lay Down by Dave Matthews Band all quickly followed.

Then we decided this game was too easy, so we changed the rules:  the title of the next song had to begin with the last word of the last song.

So Scott went with Down in a Hole, by Alice in Chains.

And I thought to myself, what the hell song begins with the word "hole"?  I couldn't think of any, so I cheated and went with A Whole New World from Aladdin.  Gotta love those lawyerly problem-solving abilities.

Scott next picked The World Has Turned and Left Me Here, by Weezer, which I followed with Here Without You by 3 Doors Down.  We were going strong, with no loser in sight.

And then our date night got crashed.

I think it might have been the Aladdin song that woke them up.  Or maybe Baby Got Back.  Who knows.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it was just the lure of the campfire.  My kids are drawn to flames like a moth is drawn...to a flame.  Heh.

Once it burned out we put all the kiddo's back to bed.  And maybe played a million more rounds of the Grooveshark challenge.  At the end, we called it a draw - and then of course shared a good night kiss.  Turns out Grooveshark was in the heart!!!  See how it all comes full circle?  Aw.

You know, this date night challenge wasn't the most exciting of our date nights, but honestly I think I've had the most fun so far on this one.  It was just so chill and relaxing.  Good ambiance, good music, good drinks, good company...what more can you ask for?

And now for next week's Date Night Challenge theme....

(!?!?!?!?!?!?!?)

Pizza and a Puzzle

No mind-benders this week, people.  We're literally going to eat a pizza and do a puzzle.  We might have to put on our thinking caps to make this one a bit more creative.  We'll see what we come up with.

Loving the Grooveshark date! Excellent idea! Can you blame the kids? Clearly they needed to get their groove on!

That sounds like a fun game you played. I'm bad with song titles, so I would have to google!!

Hi Megan! My name is Ruth Anne. I've been a lurker. I feel like you're a kindred spirit, because we both have little guys named Owen that are around the same age, and your description of your Owen reminds me a lot of mine. ANYWAY, I gave you an award on my blog today. I don't know if you accept awards, but I thought you deserved it. It's a cupcake award, with a cherry! What's not to like!?

Anyway, I love, love, love reading your posts and I hope you aren't totally creeped out me springing out of the woodwork, forcing an award on you. ;-)

You can check it out here, if you'd like. Just please don't block me. I need your humor in my life. Remember, I have an Owen too.

In case the title doesn't give it away, my blog is a weight loss blog. I know, I know. Don't hold it against me.

What a fun idea. We've never challenged Grooveshark, but we sure love the site, too.
