Preschool Time

Ashley starts preschool next week. Tonight was "information night," where we got to go see her classroom, meet her teacher, etc. etc. We were also supposed to drop off supplies and fill out forms and what not, but since Scott and I are unorganized we totally forgot about that part of it. Oh well, at least we remembered to bring Ashley.

When we got there, Ashley disappeared with Mrs. S and all of her little classmates into the "red room" to get acquainted. Scott and I stayed with all the parents for a lecture on drop-off times and pickups and snack calendars and peanut free zones and lots of other important preschool stuff. I tried to look extra-attentive since I had already slacked on the supply/form dealio, but then I got distracted by the suggested snack item list....mmmm, snacks. In my defense, I forgot to eat lunch today and you can't give a snack list to a hungry mama and expect her to read it later.

After the lecture portion of the evening, I tried to pry details out from Ashley as to what happened in the "red room", but she wouldn't spill. She just kept saying "I just don't want to tell you, Mommy." I thought to myself, "Okay, she just needs to process." So I told Ashley "It's okay, honey, you just tell me about it when you're ready."

"Okay, mommy, but I just don't want to tell you."

"Okay, honey, just let me know if you change your mind."

"Okay mommy, but I don't want to change my mind."

"Okay, no worries. You just need to process, right? I understand, baby...go ahead and process."

I waited 5 more minutes and then I couldn't take it anymore, so I bribed her with potato chips. Apparently, they colored and checked out the toys and Mrs. S read a story about a sad raccoon. Not a bad start to preschool, I'd say. Except for the sad raccoon, poor guy.

When we left, the preschool director said "Bye, Miss Curly-Haired Ashley!"

One day in and she's already got a nickname. She's totally going to rock preschool.

I laughed when I read that you forgot all the stuff but remembered Ashley. Hey you remembered the important thing - who need supplies anyway.
