If You Like Pina Coladas

I'm more of a strawberry margarita kind of girl, but if the lyrics to a song work, you don't question it dangit!!

Although I guess it's okay to question the part about being tired of your lady, and putting personal ads in the paper, and picking up total strangers just because they share your alcoholic beverage preference. It's unlikely that any of those things are building-blocks towards establishing a healthy marriage. And yes, Rupert...it does sound kinda mean.

But that's not the point of this post at all.

The point is, every couple needs to escape once in awhile. It's good for the soul. Maybe not so good for the pocketbook, especially if your soul tends to have expensive taste, but good for the soul nonetheless.

Luckily, Scott and I don't need to go to a bar called O'Malley's to plan our escape. Instead, we get to mooch off the wonderful plans two of our closest friends have made as they celebrate their wedding day this weekend. We are both standing up for them, which I'm enormously pleased about because (i) I get to revel in the romance up close; and (ii) I get to see my Scotty in a tux. Plus, there will be dancing and cocktails. And since the reception is being held in a lovely hotel, we will be staying the night.

By ourselves. Without the children.

And I can't wait. And I know that sounds...kinda mean. (It's all becoming clear to me now, Rupert).

As a working mom, I always feel guilty expressing desire to be away from my children, even for just a night. But our escaping is good for them too (although don't try to tell Owen that until we're safely out of the driveway, because, hoo boy, escaping makes him mad). It keeps the romance alive, the priorities focused, the partnership solid. At least for us it does.

And so this weekend we'll escape the life we've built together, just for a night. To remember the reason we started that life, all those years ago...when it was just me and him.

I am so glad you are getting a break. It is hard when you work all day and you feel bad, but then you don't because you do need a break and the chance for that romance. Have fun and relish every moment!

And I have to say that I LOVE that song - and how funny you posted this because I have seriously heard that song a million times this week on the radio after not hearing it for so long.... Strange.
